How long have you or your company been involved with the CMA?
Organic Valley has been involved with CMA since I joined, about a year and a half ago. I started initial trainings and assessments last year and have been pursuing certification this year.
Why did you decide to become certified?
I know that taking advantage of resources and training are so valuable in the early stages of a career and was fortunate that Organic Valley has many different options to expand your knowledge in business and Category Management. I wanted to utilize the present resources of CMA and expand my business and category knowledge so that I could become more well-rounded and bring more to the table in my position.
What was the most interesting thing you learned as you completed the training and certification?
I think some of the most interesting topics I learned while going through certification, was the variety of roles each retailer and manufacturer play in the grocery landscape, and how many different roles and strategies are utilized to lead to strong consumer and business decisions.
How do you feel you will use this certification in your current role?
I work with a number of cross-functional teams in my role, this certification process allows me to bring new understandings of data and how to efficiently analyze the data for our category reviews, and bring best of class insights and recommendations that retailers and our sales team members would value and utilize the most.
What advice would you give someone considering completing the training and certification?
I think it’s important to always be open to learning and understanding what’s driving decisions and actions in your business. These trainings will offer you a variety of different areas to help not only yourself grow as a professional in category management, but also bring value to the organization you are working with.
