How long have you or your company been a member of the CMA?

I have been working with CMA for over a year. We were introduced to the CMA certification program in February 2020.

Why did you decide to become certified?

Working through the certification process was a great way to sharpen my skill set and ultimately validate the category management work I have been undertaking in my role. Having an official certification is also a wonderful way to build confidence with our retail partners.

What was the most interesting thing you learned as you completed the training and certification?

I really enjoyed the Category Definition & Segmentation and Category Role modules, as they made me think about how the many different categories we play in impact our retailers. The modules did a great job of laying out the different strategies and tactics that you can leverage in order to make the most of each defined category and the appropriate expectations of category roles.

How do you feel you will use this certification in your current role?

The CPCA course provides a structured framework to help work through commonly occurring issues in our business. I feel that the learnings from this certification helped me to think about approaching problems and opportunities from a more strategic perspective and emphasized the need to partner with your retailer every step of the way.

What advice would you give someone who is considering completing the training and certification?

I would recommend carving out enough time to make sure they retain the program information. There is so much useful information in the course and giving yourself enough time to take notes and absorb the learnings will make you successful in the final exam.
