The CMA Higher Education Board recently conducted a survey to find the most important criteria for career choices made by today’s students. Of the 400 student responses from 10 universities, only 15% were aware of Omni Channel retailing and just half knew about career opportunities in Category Management.

Here’s a list of what to do when recruiting for category management positions:

Establish university partnerships to better recruit students:
– Build relationships with faculty members
– Work with schools to increase category management career awareness
– Help universities shape curriculum
– Inform students directly about careers in category management to build student pipeline

Understand the values that students possess and how to leverage them in interviews:
– Students value work/life balance
– Students believe companies should provide for both professional and social opportunities
– Compensation while important, must be balanced with benefits in terms of total compensation
