Dollar Stores, once the domain of close-outs and off brands, is fast becoming a mainstream shopping channel for a large swath of the U.S. population.  Major retailers in this channel are increasingly acting like traditional grocery players, but in a smaller, more convenient, and less expensive format.  These retailers may hold significant growth opportunities for their CPG partners.  Consider:

  • Consumables are a majority of sales at the “big three” Dollar Store retailers (nearly 80% at Dollar General).
  • Grocery is the biggest (and fastest growing) category, followed closely by Personal Care, Beauty, and Home Goods.
