Meet Becky Bronkema!

What is your current role? Merchandise Planning Manager for Deli/Bakery/Franchise at Meijer
What level certification did you achieve? Certified Professional Category Analyst

Why did you decide to get certified? Our Company, Meijer, had the opportunity to have select individuals take the test and help gauge how well our current training prepares individuals for the certification. I was selected to take the test based on my involvement in Category Management at Meijer over the past several years. It was a great way to understand how the training we offer our teams supports what is needed to become certified, and identify any potential gaps or opportunities in our curriculum based on test results.

What do you hope to improve or achieve in your current role due to the addition of your certification? Receiving the certification helped demonstrate and confirm that our training and on the job experiences adequately prepare us for the certification. However, the test did help identify areas we still have room for improvement as well. One area we plan to pursue is developing training that is less tactical and more situational based so our teams understand theories and not just tactics for how to approach different challenges around pricing, assortment, promotion, etc
