Give us a brief history of your company, when and how did you get started and what is your high-level mission statement?

Nuqleous started in 2013 as a boutique consulting firm called Rock Solid Retail working primarily with a prominent retailer. In 2015 we shifted our focus from consulting to becoming a software company building solutions for consumer goods companies and retailers. We have an intense focus on partnership with our customers as we evolve our products. Our mission is to help forge the future of retail and improve our customers’ lives. Our products are born out of that mission. Our software helps our customers build trust with their stakeholders and partners, helps them be more agile in navigating the change happening in the industry, and helps them work more effectively, reducing the time and effort required to meet increasingly complex expectations.

What is the most common question you hear from current and potential customers, and how do you answer it?

Most common question we get is…

Q: “What’s behind the name Nuqleous?”

A: As we were developing our brand, we wanted to communicate two things about us as a company. First, that we can be relied upon as a trusted partner; we’re stable, empathetic, thoughtful, and operate with integrity. Second, that we can help drive action and agility, which we do through partnership, curiosity, passion and innovation. The word nucleus encapsulates both of those concepts. When you think about the nucleus of an atom, it is the foundation of the atom and holds it together. When you think about a cell, all life and energy is generated out of the cell’s nucleus. We operate on the foundation of our core values of empathy, collaboration, integrity, passion, excellence, and intellectual curiosity.

This is how we express the meaning of our brand to our customers every day.

Any white space in the industry or areas you are looking to expand into?

We believe that trust, communication, and collaboration are critical in the relationships between retailers and consumer goods companies. As the pace of change increases in the industry, it’s even more critical for retailers and CPG companies to have strong mechanisms for partnering together, and we’re working on solutions to better facilitate collaboration, alignment, and communication.

One of these exciting solutions we’re working on is the integration of Shelf IQ and Spotlight, allowing category management and advisor customers to perform enhanced analytics on category, space, and shelf performance. By leveraging this integration, our customers can drive substantial strategic value with their retail partners throughout the entire category management and space planning lifecycles. Shelf IQ + Spotlight is the key to making this ambition a reality.

What is the most important thing that needs to be addressed in the category management and shopper insights disciplines going forward?

The retail industry faces numerous challenges like changing shopping habits, technological advancements, and supply chain disruptions. To address these challenges, category management professionals need agile tools that help manage, interpret, and act on complex data sets, ultimately keeping them ahead in the market.
Our retail analytics solution, Spotlight, collects, harmonizes, and quality assures data daily. This frees retail professionals to focus on valuable work by providing timely access to a single source of data, making it easier to identify critical insights and take quick actions.

For space planning, our solution Shelf IQ seamlessly incorporates data and merchandising rules into planograms. It automates the heavy lifting, allowing users to make accurate changes with agility at scale.

How are you thinking about the next 3-5 years in retail?

We believe space planning cycles will shorten, leading to more frequent “micro resets” and changes, necessitating enhanced agility in response. The importance of unified data cannot be overstated, as the integration of data from multiple sources will play an increasingly vital role in making informed retail decisions. In the boundless future of retail, fragmented data cannot effectively support valuable insights and actionable outcomes.
